Chickens, Are They Right For Me? What About My Neighbors?

Updated: Jul 24, 2020

Will my neighbors be ok with me owning chickens? Well, some may be ok with it and some might not be. You should check with them and have a conversation about the idea of you wanting to own chickens, address any concerns they may have especially if they are close by. You will never know until you talk to or ask them. They may not even be educated on owning chickens at all. They may have concerns about the noise or the smell. Then again they may feel that you may downgrade the neighborhood if you own chickens. So, rule of thumb is, if you have close neighbors please talk with them first and get their take on it before you go forward and buy chickens. The last thing you would want to do is start a complaining war with your neighbor. You could also mention all the free eggs they could benefit from if you did own chickens. In the end, if it's legal, and you obey your towns', counties' or cities' rules and regulations concerning chickens and your neighbors arn't in agreeance then at least you have had them state their opinion. You know where they stand on the topic or idea and you can and move forward in owning chickens and know you are in the right to do so.
