Let's Talk Chickens. What Color Eggs Should I Expect?


Ok, here we go on the color of eggs that chickens can lay. Now, you usually only see white and brown eggs in the supermarket. But, there are different breeds of chickens who lay different colors of eggs besides white and brown. Some may lay blue, green, chocolate, or cream eggs. Then the color of your eggs could be anywhere in between those colors depending on the breed of chickens you have. It is quite amazing and enjoyable to go out to your coop and see what color eggs your hens might have in store for you.


Below are breeds of chickens for you to consider if you want colorful eggs:

For Blue Eggs: Ameraucanas, Legbars, Cuckoo Bluebars

For Blue/Green Eggs: Easter Eggers, Favaucanas, Ameriflowers

For Medium Dark, Reddish Brown Eggs: Welsummers

For Very Dark, Chocolate Brown Eggs: Marans, Penedesencas
