Chickens, well some breeds are owned and raised for their meat, laying eggs and for doing both. When you are owning and raising chickens for both eggs and meat, there are certain breeds that are great for this and are called dual purpose breeds. The people also own and raise chickens for ornamental purposes including all bantams. There isn't any issue with raising or owning all 4 types of chickens. Many people do it. It's only what you would to own or raise that matters.
If you want the most eggs, then stay within the egg laying breeds. A lot of people like the White Leghorns because they feel that they are the best egg layers. They do have a tendency to be nervous around people and avoid contact with them. They are also more flighty. White Leghorns can be either aggressive or friendly. It just depends on how you handle them frequently at a young age. Now, dual purpose and ornamental breeds of chickens tend to be more on the docile and friendly side. Just remember, that it all depends on how you interact with your chickens. If you don't have contact with them a lot then they are going to be more timid and reluctant to human contact as well as being less friendly. So, chickens and your relationship are truly what you make it to be.
